Public Records Request
Public Records Policy
The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA), serving Columbus and Central Ohio, strictly adheres to Ohio’s Public Records Act. Public records include any document — regardless of format — created or received under COTA’s authority that documents its activities, decisions, policies or operations.
Filing a Records Request
To request public records, a requester must clearly identify the desired documents so that COTA can locate and review them efficiently. Requests do not need to be submitted in writing, nor must requesters provide their identity or intended use.
Records are available for inspection during regular business hours (excluding COTA-observed holidays). COTA commits to providing access “promptly” and “within a reasonable period,” considering document volume, storage location and any required legal review.
Fees and Format
Under Ohio’s Public Records Act, copies of public records are available at cost. There is no charge for documents emailed.
If you have questions about how to submit a records request, email publicrecords@cota.com.
